To our Hanover Nation Patrons:

The surprising events of the past week need to be updated to you, our patrons. They will be addressed in the following manner:

  1. On Friday morning, Hanover administration received a resignation by a part time employee. As with all such matters, it will be duly acted upon by the Board;
  2. On Friday at the last minute before school began and without notice, members of the transportation department unilaterally decided to refuse to transport students to school.  Consequently, I made a decision to cancel classes for the day. Although very unfortunate and disruptive, the Board planned the 2023-2024 school year school calendar for unexpected matters impacting attendance (such as “snow days”) and the calendared student-attendance days are still within the required days of school attendance.

To be clear and honest about the swirling rumors being circulated on social media and the other measures of media, I want to ensure patrons of Hanover of the following:

  1. Personnel matters of all employees are subject to state law and policy and therefore will not be addressed in public nor will any comment be made between Board or administration to protect the confidentiality and reputations of personnel;
  2. Second, a meeting was held to assure that transportation personnel will be providing transportation services to our students.

Additionally, it has been reported that accusations are being made that the resignation of personnel is a result of tax issues regarding Hanover SD 28 and its employees:  I assure the citizens of Hanover that this matter is being researched and investigated by administration and we are working diligently on finding accurate information and to clarify what has happened. We will identify all matters that need attention, remedy solutions to any problems, and make sure issues are resolved going forward. Of course, we will appropriately cooperate and work with anyone that may have been affected as a result of any past practices that need correction.

Thank you for your support and confidence that we will investigate and remedy these matters for the best interests of all.

Educationally,

Paul Calvert, SuperintendentHanover SD 28
